Annual Review Success

The Annual Review for Girlguiding Fife took place on the 21st October at Burnside Hall, Balmullo. 75 Leaders met together for afternoon tea provided by Barnetts. Caroline Gourlay, the County Commissioner, gave her report and thanked the leaders for all their hard work running the units throughout the year.


Girlguiding UK launch New Programme

On the 21stJuly 2018 Girlguiding UK launched a new programme.

There are six main themes, which are as follows:

  • Know Myself (Blue)
  • Express Myself (Red)
  • Be well (Lilac)
  • Have Adventures (Green)
  • Take Action (Orange) 
  • Skills for My Future (Pink)

There will be Skill Builder Badges, New Interest Badges and Unit Meeting Activity ideas all linked with the new themes.

There are new handbooks and badge books for Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers.

Happy Birthday Rainbows!

On Saturday 4th November 300 Rainbows, girls aged 5-7 years, took over the Windmill Community Campus in Kirkcaldy. The girls were celebrating 30 years of Rainbows and enjoyed a magic show and dancing and games to music. Under the sea was the theme so the halls were decorated with nets, streamers and sea creatures. The girls loved the bouncy castles and even made a mermaid to take home. The best part of the afternoon was having fun with 300 other Rainbows.

Girlguiding Fife AGM

On 29th October Girlguiding Fife held their AGM at Lomond Hotel, Freuchie. Caroline Gourlay, the new County Commissioner, welcomed everyone and thanked the leaders for all their hard work over the past year running their units. There are now 3140 members in Fife. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon tea and time to meet up with guiding friends. Niamh Ritchie gave an interesting talk about her International Guiding Trip to Lesotho in the summer.

Weekend of Fun at Balmullo

The 1st Pittenweem Guides, which has girls from throughout the East Neuk, enjoyed a great weekend at the Carmichael Centre Balmullo on 30 Sep/1 Oct.  There were lots of indoor and outdoor activities and on Saturday night the girls were invited to join a Camp Fire organised by the scouts, cubs and beavers from Kirkcaldy District, who were using the campsite.

Over 500 years recognised at Guiding Fife Award’s Ceremony

On Sunday 14th May over 100 people attended the annual Girlguiding Fife Award’s Ceremony at St. Bryce Centre in Kirkcaldy. Awards were presented to 24 new leaders and long service recipients by Dorothy Wilson, County President and Margaret Dean, Deputy President. Over 500 years’ voluntary service to Girlguiding Fife was recognised at the ceremony with one or two in particular worthy of mention;  Wilma Page has served Guiding for an impressive 50 years. Brownies see Beauty and the Beast

Dunfermline cinema held a special viewing of 'Beauty and The Beast' for Girlguiding Fife on 19 March. The girls - all smartly turned out in uniform - were given special VIP treatment, which included a red carpet and balloons to greet them.

Rainbows, Brownies and Guides from across Fife enjoyed this special event.
